Eric C. Rubenstein is a partner at Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, where he is co-chair of the firm's Real Estate Department and a member of the Environmental Practice Group.
Mr. Rubenstein successfully manages a diverse real estate transactional practice with specific emphasis on sophisticated mortgage financing, commercial leasing, acquisitions and sales. Mr. Rubenstein personally closed the $210,000,000+ sale of Jericho Plaza, one of the largest one-site real estate transactions in Long Island history as well as the $190,000,000+ sale of EAB (now RXR) Plaza, and a $140,000,000 securitized leasehold mortgage with Lehman Brothers. For many years, Mr. Rubenstein handled all of the financing and leasing at Jericho Plaza and RXR Plaza (comprised of more than 1,800,000 square feet in the aggregate).
Among Mr. Rubenstein's other clients are AvalonBay Communities (a major residential housing REIT), ABN AMRO Bank, CVS, Engel/Burman Senior Housing (a substantial developer of senior housing in the metropolitan area) and Tritec Real Estate (commercial and hotel owners, operators and construction company). Mr. Rubenstein has represented many other major lenders and real estate developers, owners and operators in financing and sales transactions in New York City and the metropolitan area, as well as other areas throughout the United States. These transactions have included shopping centers, office buildings, hotels and resorts, apartment complexes, retail sites, nursing homes, assisted care facilities, warehouses, industrial sites, vacant land, commercial and residential cooperatives, condominiums and lofts, and partnership interests, among others.
In his representation of lenders, Mr. Rubenstein has handled a wide range of "work-out" transactions, including joint ventures with developers for the completion of residential projects with hundreds of units. Mr. Rubenstein's work on behalf of lenders and property owners include management and brokerage contracts, construction and architects agreements, title and zoning issues, as well as environmental matters.
Mr. Rubenstein began his professional career in New York City as a commercial litigator with emphasis on real estate issues. Mr. Rubenstein then concentrated his practice in the real estate transactional field and was a senior real estate associate with Baker & McKenzie and Mudge Rose Guthrie Alexander & Ferdon. Mr. Rubenstein then spent six years as in-house real estate counsel for a division of ABN AMRO Bank in Long Island and New York City. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Rubenstein was the head of the Long Island Real Estate Department of Phillips Nizer.
Mr. Rubenstein was elected Secretary of the Long Island Real Estate Group in 2008. He also serves on the board of the Real Property Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association and the Long Island Association Building and Real Estate Committee. He has been active in numerous non-profit organizations, serving on the Town of North Hempstead Business and Tourism Development Corporation and its Waterfront Advisory Commission, and committees for the Community Development Corporation and Friends of the Arts, among others. For three years, Mr. Rubenstein served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Landmark on Main Street, Inc., a community non-profit organization which converted an elementary school in Port Washington, where Mr. Rubenstein resides, into subsidized senior housing, day care and after-school facilities and a theater.
Mr. Rubenstein was recently honored by the Long Island Business News as one of the "50 Around 50" Long Islanders for his business achievement and community service.
